Islamic education is the foundation upon which strong believers, healthy families, and thriving communities are built. The Maktab has always been the cornerstone of Muslim societies: a place where children learn how to read the Qur’ān, understand their faith, and grow in good character.
Especially in the UK, it can not be overstated how vital the role the Maktab plays in preserving our way of life and values in this godless and immodest society. Really no child should be without a strong Maktab education and good role models they can connect with.
The Maktab at Jamia Masjid Bilal is dedicated to providing a balanced Islamic education for boys and girls aged five to thirteen. We currently teach around 200 students with a dedicated team who are regularly trained and DBS checked.
Along side recitation of the Qur'an with tajweed, students are taught the Safar Islamic studies series, covering Islamic belief (aqīdah), fiqh, sīrah, history and manners. Currently, classes run on Mondays to Fridays, from 5:00-6:30 PM.
Ideally, children should be enrolled into the Maktab at the age of five or six, allowing them to begin their studies from the foundation level and progress naturally with their age group.
To apply, please complete the online application form linked below.
Please note that all current spaces are full. However, we strongly encourage parents to still apply now to secure a place on the waiting list for September 2026. We will contact you as soon as an update becomes available.
You can contact the Maktab office on 07763 916696 for any Maktab-related enquiries.
Children can usually begin at age 5 or 6, once they are ready to sit, follow instructions, and participate in group learning. Older children may also be accepted depending on their Islamic studies background and space availability.
We use the Safar Academy Curriculum, which covers Qur’ān recitation, tajwīd, Islamic studies, duʿās, sīrah, and Islamic manners (adab). This curriculum provides a clear, structured progression for students of all abilities.
We try our best to support all children. Please discuss your child’s needs with us at enrolment so we can assess how to help.
Our fees are kept as affordable as possible so that every family can access Islamic education. At the same time, providing a high standard of teaching requires good resources and fair wages for our staff. It is also important that Islamic education is valued and given its due importance. Many parents are willing to pay higher fees for school tuition or private tutoring, yet hesitate when it comes to Islamic learning — even though this knowledge is the foundation of a child’s faith, character, and future. Our fees help support a system that delivers quality teaching while remaining accessible to the whole community.
Current fees are:
£360 per year, which may be split £30 monthly.
There is also a £15 admin fee at the time of admission.
Yes. The fourth child is taught free of charge.
If a family is genuinely struggling to pay the full amount, they may speak to the Maktab administration regarding a possible discount. A short assessment may be carried out to determine eligibility.
