Jamia Masjid Bilal was established by Haji Shah Deen Parwaz in the 1970s. With the generous donations of the local community, an old church and Sunday school was bought at the site of 245 Yews Hill Road. Alhamdulillah, the building was endowed as a house of Allah for daily prayers and classes for children.
In 1991, Mawlana Muhammad Akram was appointed Imam and tirelessly worked to expand the masjid’s activities. The building was expanded to accommodate a greater number of people with a wudhu area and car park. The site across the road at 200 was also purchased and refurbished to function as a madrassa for girls. Through Allah’s grace, the Masjid has ever since served as the heart of the community for the Muslims of Lockwood, Crosland Moor and beyond.
Our mission at Jamia Masjid Bilal is to revive the spirit of the Masjid of Madinah; a sanctuary where hearts are nurtured, knowledge is cultivated, and the remembrance of Allah ﷻ flows through every corner. It was a place where even if the staunchest enemies of Islam stayed for three days, they emerged with transformed hearts filled with love for the dīn and eager to serve it.
The masjid is a place that gathers the community for Ṣalāh, learning, dhikr, counsel, compassion, and service. It is a space where people of every age and background find guidance, comfort, and a path to closeness with their Lord.
With humility and sincerity, we strive to:
strengthen faith and character through sound Islamic teaching,
provide a peaceful home for worship and remembrance,
cultivate unity and brotherhood within the community,
support families and the next generation in living Islam with confidence,
and uphold the timeless values of the Qur’ān and Sunnah in all that we do.
We appeal to the community to volunteer their time, skills and energies to assist us in expanding our activities. May Allah ﷻ make this masjid a lantern of guidance, a gathering place of mercy, and a means of drawing nearer to Him. Ameen.
